Thank you, Marlborough Democrats!
Thank you, registered Democrats of Marlboro and Milton, for once again helping to make this petitioning season a success. Your willingness to sign petitions for county, state, and federal candidates allowed us to obtain the most signatures ever in one year from the town of Marlborough--348!
A question we frequently get is, "Aren't candidates automatically on the ballot?" The answer is, no. After the county party nomination process, public endorsements, for which candidates must obtain a certain percentage of signatures from registered party voters, is a crucial step in qualifying for November ballot access.
Ulster County Democratic Committee Petition Coordinator, Eddie Monroy, explained, "In total, we submitted 448 petition sheets and collected thousands of signatures across national, state, county, and local races. The energy on the ground and at the doors has been nothing short of electric in support of our candidates who are ready to serve."
Southern Ulster led the charge. Our county legislator, Laura Donovan, running for re-election, came in third for the most petitions gathered for county legislature seats.
So thank you for agreeing to sign!
The Marlborough Democratic Committee will hold a caucus for town candidates within the next couple of months and will need every registered Democrat able to attend. More information will follow soon.
